Broken? The Next Day (Project 365/2010)

I called the doctor's office first thing this morning, the x-ray report was in, but the doctor wasn't. After numerous calls, I finally got a call back around noon saying the report said there could be a break, but she didn't trust the report and take him to our local hospital for a splint. HA! I will not EVER take my (diabetic) son to our local hospital again after his DKA experience last June. Doctor really did try to get Cameron into an orthopedic that day, under an emergency referral because of his diabetes, but it just didn't come through.

I waited for Hubby to get home from work, loaded Cameron up, and we took the drive down to Loma Linda. The plus side of doing it this way was Loma Linda has a Quick Check-In, where I register Cameron for an ER appointment. It costs $24, but SO WORTH NOT HAVING TO WAIT HOURS. We have a guaranteed check-in window of 15 minutes. Cameron was checked right in. We had the same nurse, Cheryl, from our DKA visit, and she looked at us like, "OH NO!" She was relieved to see Cameron back on the pump, not in DKA, but saddened about his foot.

We saw 2 different doctors, had numerous x-rays, and all they could come up with was a fracture (possibly two) in the foot. They were torn on whether his ankle was affected or not, but every time they pushed on it, Cameron screamed. Cameron is sporting a walking boot with crutches and we follow up with Ortho next week (whichever comes through for us first, Loma Linda or the referral from Cameron's primary). Right now, it looks like a fracture in his foot.
